Best baseball game ever made was mlb2K6. It's full of glitches and has it's downside... but it was years ahead of it's time in many other ways. The details and accuracy of the batting stances and pitcher movements was and still is, spot on. MVP2005 is also an awesome baseball game! But this (mlb2K6) will always be my favorite baseball game.

Why is that the first Bases Loaded game looks better than this game does?

You're right David. Sadly, we weren't able to make it to SEGE this year but I'm happy we got to go last year and meet you. It was absolutely epic!! Hope you start feeling better soon and I say stream what you want because if you're not really enjoying it, what's the point? Also, we felt the same way about vgm but it had more to do with the fact that we're in Canada and it cost a lot more get a box sent here. It just wouldn't be worth it for us. Interesting VGM replacement box. I have not played Dusty Diamonds. But it was sweet to get a free Killer Instinct. There was a red Spiderman SNES cart it was Maximum Carnage, Doom was also red.

Happy 4th of July buddy! I'm hoping to go to SEGE next year bc I really want to experience it at least once and would love to meet all of those people and just have a good time. I enjoy watching all of your unboxings so if it comes out cheaper to buy certain games that you choose than going with VGM then I say go for it

I didn't know they stopped making the NCAA games. Probably because the kids were not getting anything for being featured in the game. I remember hearing about a football game that was pretty prices because the person they put on the cover was arrested and is still in Jail.

I miss the EA image app where you could put yourself in their games with the GameFace. I can still get it on my 360 games as long as I have the file saved for the Tiger Woods Golf games.

I didn't even know they made it up to NFL Street 3. I don't remember which one I played but, it was fun as hell.

I think the law of diminishing returns in terms of technology definitely applies. It was 18 years between the debut of the Atari 2600 and the Sony PlayStation. About 20 years between the launch of the PS2 and the PS5. Does anyone honestly think that the gap between the PS2 and PS5 is anywhere *near* as big as between the 2600 and the PS1? That’s why 2000s consoles don’t “feel” retro even though they’ve hit that age. When retro collecting started, the older games felt almost like another medium entirely.

It is when they added online features and dashboards. The downfall began late 90s and finished up early 2010s. Online features, self referencing, more DRM, region protection, spyware analytics all make games fundamentally different than what they once were. Additionally as intel and ppc based cpus took over there is less reason to buy a console over a PC. Xbox 360 is the first one I would consider "modern" in those ways though you can make the case for those features creeping in as early as the 16 bit era.

Scott and I tend to have a standpoint of 20 years and it's retro. So basically 360 and PS3 are now getting to be retro and then that line will move based on time and technology. Loved the video David and loved hearing your take. We also never knew anyone that had a TurboGrafx or Neo Geo growing up

GameCube, PS2, and Original XBox and earlier is what I'd consider retro. But that line will eventually shift to newer consoles over time.

The 7th generation is retro now without any doubt. I don't really think "they were HD therefore they aren't retro is a valid argument", its two generations old, in my mind that equals retro. when the 360 and ps3 were out, i don't think there were many people who would argue the ps1 and n64 weren't retro yet. And honestly if you boot up some of those early ps3 games they really do have a sort of retro feel, something like ridge racer 7 comes to mind. time marches on, i know i heard people arguing the 6th gen wasn't even "retro" on forums as recently as a couple years ago, part of me thinks people just don't want to feel old

Sadly CD's are considered retro now. Pretty soon PS5 will be retro, I'll give it about 30 years or so and your great grand kids will be telling us how much PS5 graphics are so bad. Great discussion in this video, but personally I just go with the flow, right now PS1/PS2 I would consider retro. A few people I've already heard PS3 as retro and I think soon PS3 will join the retro bracket in my mind.

Let me first say I appreciate you sharing your opinion and starting a discussion about this. That said, Idk man. I’m torn. Part of me only wants to attribute the “retro” title to NES era and earlier. The graphics were 8 bit; the sounds went bleep bloop. But I suppose games have changed enough to warrant the term for titles post NES. Generally though, I just refer to games post NES as old rather than retro lol. But let’s ignore the earlier point for a moment. I don’t really have a hard line on when something becomes retro, but if I had to make one it would probably be N64/ps1 era and earlier. Devs had to work out the kinks of 3d play and it wasn’t until GameCube/xbox/ps2 that they really figured it out. A lot of modern control schemes first appeared on these consoles and this is the first generation that had games that still (almost) hold up graphically to games within the last 5 years (Windwaker and Smash Bros melee come to mind as well as gran turismo 4 and Okami. I’m not convinced that judging a console’s “retroness” by the way it connects to the tv is the right approach, although I see its merits. I guess I prefer to judge by how different the experience is. One could make the argument that everything pre-minecraft is retro (funny since Minecraft looks the way it does) because of how much that game has shaped the modern gaming landscape. I won’t though.
